INURED
The Interuniversity Institute for Research and Development (INURED) is the co-implementing research institution for the Haiti-Brazil Corridor. Placing emphasis on the concepts of "circulation" and "mobility" in order to best capture Haitian migration processes, the INURED team will implement a participatory investigative approach that entails ethnography, community surveys, archival and document analysis to generate knowledge on how age, gender, education, income and socioracial inequalities influence migration processes from Haiti to Brazil (and onwards) and, in turn, how migration processes are reshaping those same inequalities.
Consistent with the overarching research question of the GCRF Hub, INURED seeks to answer the following overarching research question: How can migration along the Haiti-Brazil Corridor reduce inequality and contribute to the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals? How do inequalities in opportunities, access to resources and policies/programs mediate migrant decision-making, and how do these affect the type of migration pathways accessed and, consequently, impact development? How do regular and irregular migration intermediaries impact the inequalities associated with migration processes along the Haiti-Brazil Corridor and influence the contexts in which they operate? The intervention component of INURED's work will engage key actors including, but not limited to: policymakers, advocates as well as those in the arts and media.
