Mackenzie joined Samuel Hall as a researcher manager within the Migration and Displacement Pillar. She is a mixed-methods migration researcher with expertise in child and youth migration from a gender perspective. Her interests are in child and youth return and reintegration and child and youth refugee movements both within the Levant and onwards to the Global North. Mackenzie has more than six years of experience working with child and youth migrants in/from Afghanistan, Central Europe, the Levant and West Africa. Prior to joining Samuel Hall, she conducted research with Save the Children, the UN Migration Agency, the Mixed Migration Centre West Africa of the Danish Refugee Council, the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy and UNICEF. Her work has ranged from youth mixed migration to the Canary Islands to refugee integration in Vienna, Austria to gendering child return and reintegration in Afghanistan. She has authored a variety of reports and publications centred on child and youth migrants in a variety of contexts. Her work emphasises children’s and youth’s voices and she is a strong advocate for gender sensitive research methods, analysis and reporting in the child and youth migration field. Mackenzie holds a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University (specialization Gender and Migration) and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Michigan. She is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Gender at the University of Vienna.
