This side event is organised in partnership with ODI and GK Partners. Co-collaborators on the panel include MIDEQ; African Foundation for Development (AFFORD); OECD Development Centre; United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) ; GIZ; MIGNEX and the government of The Gambia.
This event will share insights and spark new ideas on how to achieve Objective 19 of the Global Compact on Migration to create conditions for migrants and diasporas to fully contribute to sustainable development in all countries. Expert speakers will reflect on the lessons learned and best practices of recent, pioneering national and international initiatives, and offer their recommendations on future policy options.
The panel will feature government representatives from Ghana’s Diaspora Office and The Gambia’s Diaspora and Migration Directorate, in addition to leading international actors on diaspora engagement. The discussion will be aided by the ground-breaking analysis of two global research projects on migration: MIGNEX and MIDEQ. Audience members will be invited to contribute to this high-level discussion through a Q&A.
